Review Site Series: Predatory Page Claiming

review site cleaning

Welcome back to our Review Site Series! For this post, we wanted to focus on predatory page claiming.

Many review sites allow a business owner to log in and claim their business listing. However, there are some pages that do not. We feel that the ability to claim your own business listing is a very key feature in a review site.

Moreover, the process of page claiming should be easy as well as secure, to defend against predatory page claiming. What do we mean by ‘predatory page claiming’? Predatory page claiming refers to a business owner claiming a competitor’s business listing as his or her own with malicious intent to potentially sabotage them.

The verification process should be thorough but efficient. So, it should take at least 2-3 steps to verify, but not be 2-3 pages long filled with a lengthy questionnaire.

What are your thoughts? Do you think review sites should make it easier or harder to claim a business listing? Or do you think the way most sites currently have it is the most efficient? Let us know in the comments below!
