Review Site Series: Rating Rounding

For this installment of our Review Site Series, we would like to focus on rating rounding. By rating rounding, we are referring to a rating being counted as 5 instead of 4.8, 3 instead of 2.5, and so forth.

We feel that it is important to include an additional decimal place. Why? Because then consumers are able to garner a more specific idea of the reviewer’s intentions when they left their review of the business.

If a review site rounds up, this can give poor businesses an unfair advantage against other, more deserving businesses.

If a review site rounds down, it can aim to hurt businesses that deserved a 4.5 but instead got a 4.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it’s a fair and/or accurate way to capture a rating? Let us know in the comments below!
